Areas of professional development and solution deployment that are near and dear to us are in the fields of software and security. We sustain our livelihoods in these ever growing industries, and I [Chris] have been engaged in the internet since the beginning of the Web, now putting an emphasis on security and cryptography. Patricia has worked with numerous industrial companies developing hardware and software solutions for decades and is now specializing in cybersecurity and developing projects to safeguard technology, data, and infrastructure against global threats. Our work necessarily needs to have a global context and we have much to learn by collaborating with teams and seeking out solutions that may emerge and grow from anywhere on the planet. A North American centric business or technology outlook is no longer the optimal way to view the world, nor is it the most efficient or effective market. We see many opportunities and collaborative success coming from individuals, teams, industries, and nations that may not even be on ‘the map’ today, such as was the case with China and India years ago when technology was nascent and the Internet was a niche for governments and universities. Today, the ubiquitous nature of technology and appetite for it will sustain skilled practitioners and those willing to learn about all the facets of deploying and marketing digital solutions, and we will conduct business around the world - from around the world and back again. Small teams and entrepreneurial software shops are making big strides in our industry, and always have. The story is not about Big Tech running the world - large companies rely on acquiring properties, patents, and user communities from smaller ones, thousands of them, which emerge from the corners of the earth. This is where the grassroots really shines, despite the impression the media may give us of the glossy citadels of technology power in the United States and other ‘power centers’. We intend to seek out and engage the creative power and collaborative forces of people everywhere, to make the world a better, safer, and richer place with technology.
